Overview
GED4WEB
is an easy and quick way to get your family tree documentation on the world wide web.
This will benefit your research by allowing others with common ancestors to find
you so they can contact you and share information about common ancestors. I get
emails several times a month from distant cousins who found me
by typing their last name into a search engine and found my genealogy website (www.ged4web.com/derik/index.htm).
History
I first created
GED4WEB in
1999 when my Genealogy research got too large to update my website by hand each
time I discovered new ancestors. I searched the internet but was unable to find a program to make webpages from my genealogy
information. As you have likely found in your search, there is no other
program that create webpages in all four of the popular formats (Family Group,
Decendancy, Pedigree, Notes & Sources). There are others out there now,
but none of them create professional looking webpages, in all four formats, with
the push of one button. I take great pride in keeping GED4WEB a state of
the art genealogy webpage creating program. In the years since I first
made this program available, people all over the world have registered the
program. It's now being used by people in over 30
countries.
Security
The webpages created by GED4WEB do not include birth dates or places of people
still living. You also have the ability to exclude any other information
you decide you don't want to publish on your website.
Standards
GED4WEB
converts GEDCOM files to Webpages. It conforms to the GEDCOM 5.5
standard specifications. You may be asking yourself (and me),
"What is a GEDCOM file". Follow this link for the description
and definition of a GEDCOM file.
Installation
Installing this program is simple and easy. The program is self
extracting. Click here
and when prompted, run the install program from my website. Alternatively,
you can save the file g4w331.exe
to your hard disk. Then open Windows Explorer, navigate to the directory (folder)
you saved the file in, and double click on it. Once you start the install,
you will see the PKZip extraction
program. Click the FINISHED button in the lower right corner and it will extract the
file ged4web.exe and install a menu item under your "Start" button.
