Benefits of GED4WEB

 

GED4WEB is unique in offering four output formats in one simple to use program. 

All pages can be created in English, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Danish, Norwegian, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Slovenian, or all languages.

The 4 output formats are:

Displays immediate family units consisting of an individual, his or her parents, spouse, spouse's parents, children.

Parent names are also links to a family unit page centered around the parent and parent's spouse.   Children's names are also links to a family unit page centered around the child and child's spouse.  Clicking on the names of children enables you to navigate down through the generations of a family tree.  Clicking on the names of parents enables you to navigate up the generations of a family tree. 

Includes an individual's name, birth date and place, death date and place and gender.

Next to each individual's name is a link to their Pedigree Page.  GED4WEB also makes the name of each person in the Pedigree chart a link back to their Family Page.  Follow this link for an example of the Family Group Pages.

Generations can be color-coded for easy viewing.

Page titles can be customized.

Displays the family tree graphically beginning with the individual with the latest birth date.

GED4WEB can display an infinite number of generations.

You may easily know that a pedigree line continues by the presence of a red arrow next to a name on the right side of the chart.  This arrow is a hyperlink to another pedigree chart with that person as the base (left most name).

GED4WEB also makes the name of each person in the Pedigree chart a link to their Family Page.   Every name in the family pages, has a reciprocal link to get you back to the Pedigree chart.  Follow this link for an example of the Pedigree Pages.

Page titles can be customized.

Graphically displays an individual and their direct descendants.

Includes gender, birth date and place, death date and place.

Marriage information can be shown for each individual.

Generations can be color-coded for easy viewing.

Option of group for every parent or topmost parent.  This means that you can create the pages to have every person with children as the top of their own descendency chart, or you can create the pages so only the topmost ancestor has a descendency chart and a descendant's name is indexed into every descendency chart they belong to.  Follow this link for an example of Descendancy Pages.

Page titles can be customized.

All 'tags' that could be considered a note or a source can be output to a separate group of pages called "Notes and Sources".  These pages have links to them from the Family Group Pages. 

For a list of the GEDCOM 5.5 tags that will be on the notes and sources pages follow this link.  All tags in this list are optional.  You can select which ones you want to use.

Each note and source has a link back to the Family Group page for that person.

Page titles can be customized.

 

GED4WEB offers a "Custom links" option.

This option will allow you to specify links to custom pages you create yourself.  These pages can contain anything you like.   Pictures, detailed description of specific individuals, family history overview, etc. Many users familiar with creating their own web pages have asked for this ability, and I found myself needing it also.

 

GED4WEB offers security options to protect the privacy of individuals.

You have the option of suppressing birth dates and marriage dates to protect the privacy of individuals still living.

This option lets you choose the years (born after 1900 and/or married after 1920 for example) to begin suppressing birth dates and marriage dates.

you have the option of suppressing LDS Ordinances to protect the privacy of individuals still living and/or deceased. 

The tags that will be suppressed are:

BAPL {BAPTISM-LDS}
CONL {CONFIRMATION_L}
ENDL {ENDOWMENT}
SLGC {SEALING_CHILD}
SLGS {SEALING_SPOUSE}
TEMP {TEMPLE}

This option lets you choose the years (born after 1900 and/or married after 1920 for example) to begin suppressing LDS Ordinances.

GED4WEB recommends that social security numbers NOT be displayed on the world wide web.  GED4WEB does not include social security information in any of it's output files.

 

GED4WEB offers an option to customize text colors allowing you to design your pages to your preference.  Generations can be color-coded for ease of viewing.

You also have the option of including a Copyright statement, with your name included, on the bottom of every page to protect your rights of ownership.  For example:  Copyright© 2009

GED4WEB offers an option to customize screen background to your preference.  You can select a solid color background, the default background as seen on this page, or a custom (GIF or JPG) background of your choosing.

A new feature has been added to allow you to mark all ancestors of an individual with a red dot reddot.gif (156 bytes).  This allows you (and others viewing your files) to know exactly who your direct ancestors are, without having to navigate the entire family tree.  This is especially helpful when viewing the index pages.

GED4WEB provides an option to include a link allowing people viewing your web page to download your GEDCOM file.
